The 23^rd session of the Climate COP, presided by the government of Fiji, was held in Bonn, Germany, from 6 to 18 November. On November 18^th, the countries agreed on the next steps to be put in place, in particular to formalize at COP24 the implementation rules of the Paris Agreement and reinforce the pre-2020 climate action.

COP23 also launched the “Talanoa Dialogue”, inspired by the Pacific concept of inclusive, participatory and transparent talks. This dialogue will enable to draw the first global assessment of climate actions in order to raise the climate ambition of all countries. Supported by a serie of concrete actions from governments, cities, states, regions, business and civil society, this dialogue will answer the questions: “Where are we? Where do we want to go? How to get there?”.

During the Climate conference, the Minister of the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, Nicolas Hulot, announced the launch of “My project for the planet”. Citizens residing in France are invited to propose projects in the fields of energy, circular economy and biodiversity. This call for citizens’ initiatives will showcase projects of citizens who are effectively engaged to meet the ambitions of the French Climate Plan. The purpose is also to involve citizens in the choices of actions to support innovations in the energy, circular economy and biodiversity fields.

The French President invited States representatives to meet at the climate summit for sustainable finance “One Planet Summit”, on December 12^th at the Seine Musicale, Seguin Island, near Paris. This international summit, co-organized with the United Nations and the World Bank, is in line with the Paris Agreement. It mainly deals with the financing of climate actions and the alignment of financial flows to meet the Paris Agreement targets; should it be reduction of greenhouse gas emissions or protection of the population from climate change consequences. It is a key question for the credibility of the climate action and to operate on the ground the necessary change of scale to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

This summit aims for very concrete results. It is mainly devoted to the mobilization of financial means for operational projects, in all areas of the fight against climate change: renewable energy, clean transport, agriculture, sustainable buildings and cities, protecting vulnerable population. Its ambition is to gather all key finance and climate actors to co-build tools, alliances and initiatives essential to the greening of finance and to accelerate climate projects implementation on the ground.
